The Fidei et Virtuti Journal on Substack
Named after the famous Fidei et Virtuti (“Faith and Virtue”) medal, also called the Mentana Cross,this honor was awarded to all Papal Soldiers who fought in the 1867 campaign to defend the Papal States. Their victory culminated in the defeat of Garibaldi and his Redshirts at the Battle of Mentana on November 3, 1867.
Our Fidei et Virtuti Journal on Substack continues that legacy by featuring original articles on the Papal Zouaves, translations from other publications, rediscovered out-of-print works, and more. New posts are released regularly to bring you history, insight, and inspiration throughout the year. Access to the Fidei et Virtuti Substack is included with Papal Zouave International membership.

For the Repose of the Souls of the Papal Zouaves
Each member of P.Z.I. will have a dedicated Papal Zouave assigned to pray for the repose of his soul. The Papal Zouaves courageously fought to defend the Pope and uphold our Catholic faith. It is not only fitting to honor their sacrifice through prayer but also our sacred duty as Catholics to pray for the faithfully departed. Through our membership, we hope to encourage and facilitate prayers for these Catholic heroes.

For the Cause of Joseph-Louis Guérin
Joseph-Louis Guérin is the closest Papal Zouave to reach sainthood. Several miraculous healings were attributed to his intercession during the late 19th century. His home diocese of Nantes put together a packet to promote his cause at the request of Bl. Pope Pius IX. Unfortunately, it has remained dormant since the early 20th century. We hope to encourage private devotion to Joseph-Louis Guérin and grow his cultus.
